One Case
WK was a 36-year-old surgeon when he notified hospital staff and the CEO of dangerous practices and conditions at his hospital. Within weeks, he was told that some of his own cases were being evaluated. When he asked why, he was told not to worry and that they would be resolved shortly. He was also told that another physician would supervise his practice.
Because of the hostile work environment, WK sought an attorney for advice. Because he was not familiar with hospital rules, HCQIA, or JCAHO, the attorney advised WK to leave the hospital and FIND work elsewhere. Two years later, the Oregon Medical Board notified the National Physician’s Database (NPD) that WK’s medical license was suspended.
Today, the 39-year-old ex-surgeon struggles to find work. The part-time truck driver and security guard has been rejected for employment flipping burgers and selling cars.
