MISSION STATEMENT

The Semmelweis Society intends to be a rallying point for students, physicians and patients to defend against and avoid the harm of biased peer review while pressuring Congress to amend the laws that allow good physicians to become the victims of career assassination.

Our resolve in matters involving peer review are similar to the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons, as written by Dr. L.R. Huntoon full story...

If there is any group of citizens able to protect its civil liberties, this is that group. Let us do so--for ourselves and for our patients. The Semmelweis Society cites libelous peer review as an avoidable cause of wasted time, money, and careers. Our doctors' data bank anonymously links evaluations of places to train or work to this site. We offer sample hospital by-laws and to warn about places best avoided until there is a "change in management". Here doctors at all career stages rate institutions according to working conditions, anonymously, or by linking to their own free web sites. We hope for reforms, and will try to update our ratings yearly. The public pays ~30% of hospital fees to administration, and benefits by treating doctors well--not harrassing them with arbitrary attempts to control their time or money, because at the end of the day ... we are all patients.

Semmelweis Society International, Inc. 501 (c)(3) (pending) was incorporated by Ralph Bard M.D., J.D., William Hinnant M.D., J.D., and Henry Butler M.D. in 2003 with the participation of Verner Waite M.D. who founded a similar organization in California in 1986.

Tax-deductible donations will be accepted to help doctors avoid and defend against biased peer review. Good-faith and impartiality in peer review affect public health: Distraction affects diagnosis and treatment. Anyone seeking profit or employment by defaming doctors knows that the physician whose career they destroy may be their own. At the end of the day, we are all patients...
